Ben and Jerrys goes globally nuts for Fairtrade.

Ben and Jerry

As you may have heard on the Today programme this morning on Radio 4, Ben & Jerry’s had announced its commitment to go fully Fairtrade. According to Ben and Jerry themselves (click here to listen if you missed it) all the flavours in all of the countries where Ben & Jerry’s is sold will be converted to Fairtrade certified ingredients by the end of 2013. That’s a lot of nuts, swirls and whirls.

Company co-founder Jerry Greenfield said in their press release, “Fairtrade is about making sure people get their fair share of the pie. The whole concept of Fairtrade goes to the heart of our values and sense of right and wrong. Nobody wants to buy something that was made by exploiting somebody else.”

This is excellent (and tasty!) news, and another good reason to make the Big Swap in Fairtrade Fortnight.
