Fairtrade London Campaign at Envision’s Warm-Up

November 30th, 2010

On Friday 12th November, the Fairtrade London Campaign set up shop at Envision’a Warm-Up in London City Hall where London’s young people had the opportunity to learn about all sorts of campaigns that they might like to take on and develop in their sixth forms and colleges. We were there to talk about and promote the fabulous Fairtrade Schools and Colleges Campaign!

Our big plastic banana attracted lots of attention and in the whirlwind 40 minutes campaigning organisations such as WaterAid, Kick It Out and Capital Growth utilised to convince these bright young people to take on their campaigns, 20% of the young people showed their support for the Fairtrade London Campaign and a fairer London. Our petition focused on pressurising the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to ensure fairtrade products score high in their considerations when awarding the games’ catering contracts in the next few months. Through signing the petition, Envision’s young people showed their  passion for securing fair prices for producers of the products that we enjoy every day!

We’ll be in touch with all the young people in the next few months to see how their Fairtrade Schools and Colleges campaigns are taking off!
